Panda attacks man who wanted a cuddle →
allcreatures: On one hand it’s entirely this guy’s fault for being bitten by a panda.  You can’t fault an animal for protecting itself. On the other, who can blame the guy?  If I were to meet a panda in person, I know I’d want a hug. Read this yesterday and it reminded me… the culture of cute is kinda out of hand in some parts of the world. This was a grad student.

P.S. - The End Is Nigh
At some point, my family—collectively—began honing their skills at “The Astonishing Postscript.” I don’t know when this all transpired, but I never got the memo. Some gems from the edge, all received this week: P.S. - I’m fat. P.S. - I called your father for the first time in 8 years. He has a cellphone now. P.S. - I broke my leg. Damn!

304. If you choose to wear a tie, commit. Button...
(via rulesformyunbornson) Worn under a v-neck sweater, a tie gets by without the button, imho. So, like any good rule of haberdashery, we (and our sons) will have to break it on occasion—judiciously. Take the example of poor O’Leary, the Butcher. “All he wanted was the privilege of wearing soft shirts without neckties.”

Bank like a pirate day! →
(via derplau) Head pirate, Ubu Kalid Shandu, said: “We need a bank so that we have a place to keep all of our ransom money. Thankfully, the dislocations in the capital markets has allowed us to purchase Citigroup at an attractive valuation and to take advantage of TARP capital to grow the business even faster.”
