Pete Seeger - We Shall Overcome
So Pete Seeger
a) is alive, and
b) appeared today in Bryant Park at lunchtime to answer questions about his new book and do some light performing.
But what it amounted to was a very dignified old man chastising people for standing up in front of other people to take pictures. It was hot, he’s old, people are fucking annoying, I can’t blame him. I’m sure he’s sitting up in Beacon right now saying, Man, people are fucking annoying.
I dragged a friend with me to see him, telling her, He’s important. He led a movement. He also introduced and then essentially unplugged Bob Dylan at Newport in 1965.
My mother would be thrilled and probably laugh her ass off to hear him being such an unapologetic curmudgeon.
