R. Gregory Christie, illustrator. Interviewed here. Greg was the first artist I met when I arrived in New York 10 years ago: I visited his studio in Bed-Stuy to pick up a piece of crappy furniture he was selling online. I was so impressed with him as a person, before ever seeing his work—which I find imaginative and mesmerizing.
